NPC Editorial Design

I was hired in 2003 to update the overall editorial design and print production of the National Physique Committee’s bimonthly magazine titled NPC News Magazine. This transformation involved moving from traditional mechanical paste-ups, negative output, and stripping, composite plate burns, to utilizing the latest Adobe Creative Cloud software. We outputted using the most recent PDF color profiles for CTP and printed and distributed through one of the largest magazine publishers in the United States.

In my role, I was responsible for the creative design of all editorial pages and image spreads. I handled all color correction, retouching, and image composites, managing every phase of print production including acquiring estimates and contracts, pre-press approvals, bindery, and nationwide mailing distribution.

Additionally, I managed the receipt, preflight, and page placement of all advertiser files. I communicated directly with advertisers and design agencies to address corrections necessary for ensuring high-quality print reproduction.
